Identity Theft

What is identity theft?

Identity theft is the illegal use of someone’s personal information, usually in order to gain money or credit. These identity thieves use your personal information to pay for their own bills. In order to prevent your identity from getting used or stolen by someone else, use different passwords and refrain from sharing your personal information online. Personal information like your social security number, credit card information, bank account number, drivers license/passports, and passwords can lead to identity theft. A tip to take extra precautions is to create passwords that DO NOT have any relation to your name, address, social security number, and any other personal information. In other words, create passwords that are unique but relevant to only you.

How do I prevent this problem?

Identity theft can happen to anyone at any time. One solution when coming face-to-face with identity theft is to file an Identity Theft Report to FTC (Federal Trade Commission). One of the main goals of the FTC is to protect consumers when they are met with unfair, deceptive or fraudulent situations such as identity theft. FTC is proven to be a professional as well as the main organization that takes care of situations involved with identity theft. In order to prevent your identity from getting stolen, take the extra precautions to ensure the safety of your identity.
